Servings: 6 yield(s)
Ingredients
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 0.5 a medium Onion - cut into 4 wedges
  • 0.5 a mediun Carrot (about 50g)
  • 0.5 a Jalapeno chilli (Optional)
  • 1 Egg - beaten
  • 80 g Rolled oats
  • 420 g tin Black Beans - drained OR 140 g dried Black Beans (See NOTE)
  • 0.5 tsp dried Oregano
  • 0.5 tsp Smoked paprika
  • tsp ground Cumin
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced).
  2. In a food processor, with the grater attachment fitted, grate the garlic and then the onion, then the carrot.
  3. Fit the chopping blade, add the jalapeño and pulse a few times until everything is in fine pieces.
  4. Add the oats and pulse until the mixture is combined and the oats are somewhat chopped.
  5. Add in the black beans, spices, and egg white. Pulse a few more times until the mixture comes together but there are still small pieces of black beans.
  6. Divide the mixture into 6 balls. Press each into a 1cm thick patty.
  7. Line a baking tray with baking paper, add the patties and bake for 15 minutes, carefully turning halfway through.
  8. Finish the burgers by frying, in a little oil, over a medium heat, for 5 minutes each side.
  9. Serve on toasted hamburger buns with your favourite burger toppings. In Australia, it's not a burger if it doesn't include slices of tinned beetroot.
Recipe Notes

If using dried beans, place them in a saucepan, cover with boiling water, and then simmer for about 30 minutes. Do not process the mixture for too long or it will become too wet.
